Getting started

What is Kernlux Development Labs?

Kernlux Development Labs is a software company that designs and builds desktop software for Linux: a dock, a browser, an uninstaller, a backup tool and our own operating system, OTT os. Every product is engineered, tested and checked before it ships.

Are your apps free?

The apps on this site are free to use. Each app page shows its licence, and we will say clearly on the page if anything ever changes.

What apps do you make?

SnapDock (a next-generation dock), OTT os Browser, Jettison (a universal uninstaller), Lifeboat (desktop backup), Rabbit Ears (free live TV) and Marquee Socials. See them all on the apps page.

How do I download or install an app?

Each app page will have its install steps. Until the downloads are live on this site, leave your email through the contact page and we will tell you the moment an app is ready.

Is it hard if I come from Windows or Mac?

It is built for that. SnapDock gives you a dock and an all-apps grid like macOS, windows snap into halves and quarters like Windows, and every change can be undone. You can describe what you want instead of typing a command. One settings window with everything in it is still being built.

Apps and OTT os

What is OTT os and can I download it?

OTT os is our own Linux desktop that looks after itself: it finds safe drivers, takes a restore point before every change, explains scripts before they run and heals common problems. It is in testing and is not available to download yet. See the OTT os page.

What is OTT os built on?

Arch Linux, and on top of it Omarchy, the Arch-based desktop by David Heinemeier Hansson and its contributors. We start from their work, keep their copyright and licence notices in the system, and add our own layer: the hardware doctor, restore points, the script guard, self-healing and the calm start. Kernlux Development Labs is independent and not affiliated with the Omarchy project.

Can I talk to it?

Yes, and voice is in testing. Push-to-talk and the voice pipeline are built: hold the key, speak, and it transcribes what you said on your own machine and answers out loud. The wake word is not wired yet, so you press to talk. You can always type instead, and it asks before it does anything.

How does OTT os relate to Omarchy?

OTT os is Omarchy-based, not a fork: a thin layer of our own tools on top of upstream, so Omarchy releases are tracked and merged rather than diverging. It is not a competitor, and it is not here to replace Omarchy - people who want plain Omarchy should use Omarchy. We are independent and not affiliated with or endorsed by the Omarchy project, and its copyright and licence notices stay in the system.

Will OTT os run on my computer?

OTT os is built to run well on modest and older computers too. Its hardware doctor identifies your machine and picks safe drivers. Because it is still in testing, we are checking real machines one at a time. Tell us about your machine on the contact page.

I am coming from Windows or Mac. Is this for me?

Yes, that is who we build for. Our apps aim to feel familiar from the first minute and every change can be undone, so you can explore without fear of breaking things.

Can I undo changes or remove an app cleanly?

Yes. OTT os takes a restore point before every change, and Jettison removes apps from any source, including their leftover settings and caches, with an undo.

Do your apps work with Omarchy?

Yes. Our apps are built for Omarchy and other Arch-based Linux desktops, and OTT os itself is built on Omarchy. Kernlux Development Labs is an independent company. We credit the projects we build on on our credits page.

When is OTT os coming out?

There is no release date to announce. OTT os is in testing and nothing on this site can be downloaded yet. When a download is ready, the OTT os page will say so first. If you leave your email through the contact page, we will tell you the moment it changes.

What is Omarchy Store and can I use it?

Omarchy Store is a community app store for Omarchy Linux: apps, themes, plugins and screensavers that install in one click, with every listing checked before it appears. It is developed by Kernlux Development Labs and it is launching now at omarchystore.com.

What is SnapDock?

SnapDock is a dock for the desktop: it keeps your apps a click away and arranges windows into tidy layouts. It is in testing. See the SnapDock page.

What is OTT os Browser?

OTT os Browser is a web browser built to look and behave like the desktop it lives on, so moving between the web and your apps feels the same. It is in testing. See the browser page.

What is Jettison?

Jettison removes an app and everything it leaves behind, in one pass, so nothing is left scattered across the system. It is in testing. See the Jettison page.

What is Lifeboat?

Lifeboat backs up your whole desktop and puts it back when something goes wrong, so a bad day does not cost you your setup. It is in testing. See the Lifeboat page.

What is Rabbit Ears?

Rabbit Ears plays free live TV from public streams, in a window that floats over your work and stays out of the way. It is in testing. See the Rabbit Ears page.

What is Marquee Socials?

Marquee Socials keeps your social accounts in one place on the desktop, instead of a row of browser tabs. It is in testing. See the Marquee Socials page.

Safety and privacy

Does the assistant listen all the time?

No. The microphone is opt-in for each user, and an update never turns it on. The model, the speech recognition and the voice all run on your computer, and nothing is sent anywhere unless you choose a cloud model yourself. When the wake word is wired, it will listen on the device for that word only.

How do you check that software is safe?

We check the licence, make sure the project is real and maintained, read our own install and setup scripts line by line, test on real machines and re-check before every release. The full list is on How we verify. When in doubt, we leave it out.

Do you collect my data?

These websites use no cookies, no analytics and no third-party trackers. If you message us, we use your message only to reply. Each app explains what it does with data on its own page.

How do I report a security problem?

Email [email protected] with what you found and how to reproduce it. Our security page explains what to expect.

Is this chat a person or an AI?

This assistant is automated. It answers from our FAQ, runs in your browser, does not send what you type anywhere and does not remember you. For anything it cannot answer, use the contact page to reach a person.

Help and contact

Can I suggest a feature or an app idea?

Yes. Tell us what you need, and why, through the contact page. Every message is read by a person.
